What is the Rwanda AI Agency?
It’s the institution that leads the development and responsible use of AI in Rwanda. Its main job is delivery. It turns the National AI Policy into AI services people use.
Why does Rwanda need an AI agency?
Rwanda has strong AI policy, but delivery was spread across many institutions. No one body owned AI solutions, shared infrastructure, talent or investment. The Agency closes that gap.
Will the Agency regulate AI?
No. It focuses on building and enabling AI. Regulators such as NCSA, BNR, FDA and RURA keep their powers. The Agency helps develop guidelines and standards with them.
What do ordinary Rwandans get from this?
Better and faster public services, with AI applied to health, farming and education. The aim is practical impact on daily life.
Will AI take people’s jobs?
AI changes work. We prepare people through training and AI literacy for public servants, students and workers, so AI adds to what people can do.
How will the Agency handle my data?
Within Rwanda’s data protection law, Law No. 058/2021, supervised by the National Cyber Security Authority. Every project is designed to meet it.
Will the Agency crowd out private companies?
No. The Agency sets direction and creates opportunities for companies to take part. Local and international partners deliver the work.
